Since 2009, Chesapeake Housing Mission has been performing critical home repairs and building wheelchair ramps for those in Wicomico, Worcester, Somerset, and Dorchester counties that are living below the poverty level, giving them the freedom to safely remain in their homes. We have found that the simple addition of a wheelchair ramp, steps, or handrails is more than a restoration of accessibility; it is a restoration of dignity. Through volunteerism and donations, to date we have successfully helped over 350 families in need.

We typically have between 30 to 40 clients on our waiting list and all of our clients are vetted by local agencies, including Bay Area CIL, MAC, and County Health Departments. CHM only provides services to poverty level persons referred to us by these professional organizations, skilled in assessing physical and financial need.

All projects are executed at no cost to our clients and are performed by volunteer teams comprised of local businesses, churches, civic, youth, service clubs, and schools. It has been our experience that the relationships and emotional bonding between the volunteers and those served is as valuable a gift as the physical repairs and we believe it provides a feeling of connection to the community.
Our Giving Tuesday goal is to raise $10,000, the funds necessary to build 5 wheelchair ramps for those in need.
