Salisbury Art Space (formerly known as Art Institute & Gallery) has been serving the Mid-Delmarva region as a nonprofit arts organization for 65 years. As local community needs are constantly changing, the SAS/AI&G has adapted accordingly over the years, in order to meet those needs.

Our galleries exhibit a diverse array of artworks throughout the year, submitted by both young and old, both experienced and fledgling artists. We host open and juried shows of local and national artists, highlighting the talent that exists within the Lower Eastern Shore and beyond. The SAS galleries have also hosted collaborative shows, in partnership with local artist groups such as the Clay Guild of the Eastern Shore and the Nanticoke River Arts Council (Gallery 107).

In order to serve all demographics - including under-served and at-risk youth - we provide free off-site, out-of-school-time art education and free on-site exhibition opportunities for youth. This type of programming is only accomplished through the generosity of grantors, sponsors and donors. The Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore's "Community Needs" grant provided this OOST funding during the FY17, during which we served a combined total of 45 public schools, community centers, and other public locations.

On-site education covers everything from drawing & painting, to mixed media and photography, to clay and sculpture. Our full clay studio provides introductory and intermediate classes for new clay students, and advanced classes and open studio hours for more experienced ceramic artists. The open studio is also an opportunity for University students to enhance their ceramic skills, during late evening hours, the summer and holiday seasons.

As an organization, Salisbury Art Space exists to serve the local community to the best of its ability. This entails welcoming all people of all demographics and providing our services to those very same individuals. The arts are not only a trade, they provide opportunities for self-expression, therapy and wellness, enhancement of other areas of academic study, freedom and creativity. The arts present opportunities for better communication between populations, collaboration and cultural understanding. SAS is proud to contribute in realizing these universal goals.
Our Giving Tuesday funding goal is to raise $2,000 in support of our out-of-school-time free youth arts education, so that we can expand our reach and incorporate more programming for teenagers in under-served neighborhoods.
